ACTRA APPLAUDS SAG-AFTRA MERGER VOTE
March 30th, 2012 - TORONTO – The Alliance of Canadian Cinema Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) welcomes the results of a successful merger vote between U.S. screen performers’ unions SAG and AFTRA. With SAG members voting 82% in favour of the merger and AFTRA members voting 86% in favour, the amalgamated union is now poised to tackle the challenges of a transformed media landscape.
Budget has mixed messages for Culture
March 29th, 2012 - TORONTO – Artists and creators were pleased to find that funding for the Canada Council for the Arts was maintained today in the latest federal budget. Unfortunately, this good news was tempered by the Conservative decision to cut funding to Canada’s public cultural institutions, including Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
