Jack Newman’s Bio

Jack Newman
Toronto

Jack has been an actor and writer in Toronto for 35 years. He has been an OSLO at ACTRA Toronto for over 15 years and a trainer in the ACTRA Training Intensive for six. Now in his second term on ACTRA Toronto’s Council where he did some service on the Conference Committee and the Archive Committee, Jack thinks the level of commitment to good work on Council by all his colleagues is greater than ever. As a National Councillor he has been impressed by the devotion and professionalism of the National Councillors he has had the privilege of meeting from across Canada. Jack also found great satisfaction in some of the political action that ACTRA has taken part in, such as the numerous protests in support of Canadian programming and also in support of our sister Unions. One very rewarding day, Jack took part in the lobbying of Federal M.P.’s to seek support in bringing  attention to the CRTC of the dearth of Canadian produced shows on primetime TV.

As a writer, Jack has written for Anne Murray, Tommy Hunter and other comedy shows. Among Jack’s movie credits are appearances with Tom Cruise in Cocktail, Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls, and Ben Affleck in Hollywoodland. Jack has also appeared in over 30 commercials including an award-winning series for Leons’.

Jack is the son of Holocaust survivors and has been happily married for 32 years. He has two grown children of whom he is extremely proud. And a very entertaining little black dog, Gracie that enjoys eating designer shoes and library books.
