ACTRA is built on the principle of strength in numbers and the belief that the only way to move forward is to work together and to build solidarity. Our collective strength will bring gains for performers and workers around the world.
Performers around the world face similar challenges that go beyond borders. Especially in an increasingly globalized world, where we are often working for the same companies, it’s critical that we work together. We are members of the International Federation of Actors (FIA) and maintain strong ties with performer unions nationally and internationally. We have reciprocal agreements with Canadian Actors Equity Association (CAEA), Union des artistes (UDA), Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) as well as the American Federation of Musicians Canada (AFM Canada).
As workers, we are also proud of our role in the trade union movement. ACTRA is an active affiliate of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and in 2005 we formed a strategic alliance with the United Steel Workers (USW).
Domestically we face a lot of challenges as we work to build and strengthen our Canadian industry. Achieving these goals requires working closely with our industry coalition partners including other unions, guilds, and organizations such as the Canadian Conference of the Arts (CCARTS).
We are also committed to strengthening our membership and reaching out to support one another. Our mutual benefit organizations – such as ACTRA Fraternal Benefits Society, Actor’s Fund of Canada, Performing Arts Lodges, and the Creative Arts Savings & Credit Union – are the physical embodiments of this spirit.
