ACTRA Elects New National Executive

Toronto – February 6, 2012 – ACTRA’s National Council has elected a new National Executive to join National President Ferne Downey to form ACTRA’s elected leadership.

The new team includes a mix of experience and new energy from across the country.

The National Executive beginning a two-year term is comprised of: Heather Allin (Toronto), Barry Blake (Ottawa), Cary Lawrence (Montreal), Dan Libman (Alberta), Talia Pura (Manitoba), Alvin Sanders (British Columbia) and Theresa Tova (Toronto).

Alvin Sanders was acclaimed for his second term as National Vice President. He has held the post since being elected to replace Tyrone Benskin who stepped down in May 2011 after becoming a Member of Parliament. Theresa Tova was acclaimed for her second term as National Treasurer. Ferne Downey was re-elected to her two-year term as National President in May 2011.

ACTRA’ s new Executive is united and ready to lead the negotiations of the union’s largest collective agreement, the Independent Production Agreement (IPA).

ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) is the national organization of professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada. ACTRA represents the interests of 22,000 members across Canada – the foundation of Canada’s highly acclaimed professional performing community.
