ACTRA secures new National Commercial deal with advertisers

Toronto, ON (July 18, 2017) — Canadian performers have reached a tentative Terms of Settlement for the renewal of their National Commercial Agreement (NCA).

“Through the firm resolve and dedication of our Negotiating Committee, we successfully overcame a complex series of issues to negotiate one of the best settlements in North America,” says ACTRA National President David Sparrow. “We stood together to advocate for the rights of all Members – across all of ACTRA’s performance categories – to ensure the Use of their work is protected, and they have healthy and safe work conditions.”

“With already one of the best performer Agreements in the world, our goal is always to secure a fair deal with improved working conditions for our hard-working Members,” says Stephen Waddell, ACTRA’s Chief Negotiator and National Executive Director. “In the ever-evolving area of digital content exhibition, we achieved significant improvements for our Members in compensation for performances distributed on New Media platforms.”

The Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), the Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA) and the Institute of Communication Agencies (ICA) commenced negotiations in Toronto on June 7, 2017. The NCA covers the engagement of Performers in all television, radio and digital commercial production in Canada. The current NCA expired June 30, 2017. ACTRA Members will now vote to ratify the tentative agreement by online referendum. Voting will commence this week and close on August 4.

ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) is the national union of professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada. ACTRA represents the interests of 23,000 members across the country – the foundation of Canada’s highly-acclaimed professional performing community.
