Toronto, ON (August 18, 2020) – Darryl Kyte has been appointed as Senior Legal Counsel for ACTRA National, effective immediately. Reporting to Marie Kelly, National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator, Darryl will support ACTRA’s objective of improving the working lives of Canadian professional performers.

Darryl’s entertainment industry experience includes representing performers, musicians, producers, advertisers, production companies, athletes, literary writers and publishers. Darryl has worked in the areas of class actions, intellectual property, entertainment, media, communications and corporate law.

Darryl has provided counsel to talent working with major networks including CTV, Global, Netflix and HBO. He has experience negotiating agreements including sponsorships, endorsements, talent contracts and options for television properties. Darryl has settled trademark and personality rights disputes and has worked with professional athletes, Grammy, Juno and Academy Award-winning talent. Darryl also brings to ACTRA his on-camera entertainment experience. He hosted and was a producer on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s International Emmy Award-winning program, Street Cents. Darryl’s journalism experience as a producer, writer and host includes, The National, CBC Sports and CBC Radio One.

Darryl holds a Bachelor of Law, LL.B. from Dalhousie University. In addition to his legal degree, Darryl has earned an Honours Degree in Economics from Dalhousie University and an Honours Degree in Journalism from the University of King’s College. Darryl is a member of the American Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association Canadian and he speaks English and French.
