ACTRA and CBC Reach Settlement in Renewed Agreements

December 9, 2010 – TORONTO – ACTRA has reached a tentative settlement with respect to the Television and Radio collective agreements covering performers engaged by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

Under the new deal, the Agreements will be extended until June 30, 2011, and performers will see a rate increase of 1.5%. In addition, the CBC will contribute to a new Benefits Administration Fee (BAF). All other terms and conditions in the Television and Radio Agreements will remain unchanged.

“The last round of negotiations was long and difficult given we were trying to tackle compensation issues relative to digital media. That said we were eventually able to agree on terms that provided important gains for performers balanced with the interests of the Corporation. We and the CBC believe the Agreements are working well and so no major changes were required this time around,” said Stephen Waddell, ACTRA National Executive Director.

ACTRA members will vote on the Terms of Settlement in the coming weeks. If approved, the new Agreement will be in effect retroactively from July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011.

ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists) is the national organization of professional performers working in the English-language recorded media in Canada. ACTRA represents the interests of 21,000 members across Canada – the foundation of Canada’s highly acclaimed professional performing community.
