Tariffs

Below is a list of certified tariffs. Distribution on these tariffs for eligible sound recordings are on going.

Tariff No. 1.A – Commercial Radio Stations
Monies are collected for the public performance or the communication to the public by telecommunication, in Canada, of published sound recordings embodying musical works and artist’s performances of such works by commercial radio stations.

Tariff No. 1.C – CBC Radio
Monies are collected as equitable remuneration for the communication to the public by telecommunication of published sound recordings of musical works by over-the-air radio broadcasting.

Tariff No. 17 – Pay Audio Services
Monies are collected for the communication to the public by telecommunication, in Canada, of published sound recordings embodying musical works and artists’ performances of such works in respect of pay audio services.

Tariff No. 3 – Background Music Supply and Background Music Use
Monies are collected for the benefit of artists, for the performance in public or the communication to the public by telecommunication of published sound recordings of musical works for use as background music in an establishment, including any use of music with a telephone on hold.

Tariff No. 4 – Satellite Radio
Monies are collected from multichannel subscription satellite radio services (such as XM and Sirius), for the benefit of artists, for the communication to the public by telecommunication, in Canada, of published sound recordings embodying musical works and artists’ performances of such works.

Tariff No. 5.A-G – Use of Recorded Music to Accompany Live Events
Monies are collected for the benefit of artists, for the communication to the public by telecommunication, in Canada, of published sound recordings to accompany live events.

Tariff No. 6.A – Use of Recorded Music to Accompany Dance
Monies are collected from any indoor or outdoor venue, including nightclubs, dance clubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, halls, clubs, schools, campuses and adult entertainment clubs, for the purpose of dancing or any similar activity, for the benefit of artists, for the communication to the public by telecommunication, in Canada, of published sound recordings to accompany dance.

Tariff No. 6.B – Use of Recorded Music to Accompany Physical Activities
Monies are collected from any indoor or outdoor venue, for the purposes of fitness, training, skating, dance instruction or any other physical activity, for the benefit of artists, for the communication to the public by telecommunication, in Canada, of published sound recordings to accompany physical activities.

Levies

Private Copying
Private copying monies are collected from the manufacturers and importers of blank media. A percentage of these monies is then distributed to eligible artists. The percentage made available is decided by the Copyright Board and distribution samples are based on commercial radio logs and sales logs.
