Working on set during COVID-19? As an ACTRA member… ACTSmart!

As a performer working in the recorded media industry, you have the right to a safe workplace. In Canada, every employer is responsible for keeping workers and workplaces safe and free of hazards.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown how crucial it is for every ACTRA member to work safely in our screen-industry. Whether you’re on-camera, in a recording booth, coordinating a stunt, or any one of the many ways our ACTRA members make the screen-industry thrive, a safe workplace is a must.

Canada’s health officials have asked us to think about our public health measures as “layers of protection” during the pandemic and incorporate them in our daily routines.

Think about how you can ACTSmart! in your daily life – for your safety as well as the safety of your co-workers, family and friends.

Below are some steps you can take to be an ACTSmart! performer:

• Stay home and away from others if you feel sick.
• Physically distance from others whenever possible.
• Wear a mask or face covering when it is difficult to maintain a two metre physical distance from others.
• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
• Avoid contact with high-touch areas and ensure you wash your hands directly afterwards.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
• Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing.
• Follow the advice of your local public health officials.

• Stay home and away from others if you feel sick.
• If working, notify the dedicated COVID-19 staff person or your supervisor immediately if you feel ill.

• Speak up immediately to the dedicated COVID-19 staff person or your supervisor if you see something that may be unsafe or makes you feel uncomfortable.
• Never compromise your own safety or the safety of your co-workers.
• Bring pre-packaged food and drink if production requests you to do so.
• Follow the advice of your local public health officials.

• Stay home and away from others if you feel sick.

• Be a safety role model for your co-workers, friends and family.
• Follow the advice of your local public health officials.
• Follow local COVID-19 protocols at home, at work, and in your community 24/7. This will help keep our industry open and see work opportunities continue.

As a professional performer, you need to understand all COVID-related protocols and safety measures before you arrive at your workplace. Conditions on each set or workplace may vary. Please contact your ACTRA Branch with any questions and please visit ACTRA’s COVID-19 Updates for the latest guides and advice.

If we all think of public health measures as layers, then the more layers we embrace as habits, the more we reduce our risk.

Thank you for doing your part and following COVID-related protocols. We need to continue to work together in all aspects of our lives for the continued health of our industry and those that work in it.

Let’s stay healthy and keep each other safe. Let’s ACTSmart!
