Help cast our next government by pledging to vote on election day!

For ACTRA members voting in their riding on election day (Monday, October 19), find out what you need to know before you go to the polls:

For ACTRA members who are based outside of Canada or for those who will be away on election day, there are three voting options available to you:

  1. Vote at an advance poll;
  2. Vote at an Elections Canada office the Tuesday before the election;
  3. Vote by mail*.

*ACTRA members living outside of Canada should be aware of a new five-year rule that took effect July 20, 2015, regarding the voting eligibility of Canadians who live abroad. The new five-year rule states that citizens living outside of Canada who want to be on the International Register of Electors and vote by special mail-in ballot from abroad must demonstrate that they meet two additional criteria:

  • You must confirm that you intend to return to Canada to reside by providing a date on which you intend to resume residence in Canada; and
  • You must confirm that you have resided abroad for less than five consecutive years, or provide proof that you fall within one of the exceptions to the five-year rule (click here to read the list of exceptions).

To learn more about the new five-year rule please click here.

An opinion piece by fellow ACTRA member Donald Sutherland was published on July 28, 2015, in the Globe and Mail on this issue – click here to read the article.

Pledging is now closed. Thanks to everyone who made a pledge to vote to help cast our next government on Monday, October 19!
