This Labour Day, Monday, September 7, we celebrate the strength, solidarity and achievements of workers and unions across Canada.
The rights and protections workers have today were built by generations of people who organized, stood together and fought for fairness, dignity, safe working conditions and a better future. Let’s take pride in that history by being involved in building a stronger labour movement.
This year, let us especially reflect on the impact unions have had on the lives of workers across Canada and the world. If you are able, consider showing your union pride by joining a Labour Day initiative, including these official ACTRA and Canadian Labour Congress events:
OTTAWA:
ACTRA will participate in the annual Labour Day parade. Members are invited to meet at the ACTRA flags at 11:45 a.m. at Ottawa City Hall (Lisgar Street side, northeast corner of Lisgar and Elgin). The march begins at 12:00 p.m., followed by a picnic at McNabb Park.
TORONTO:
ACTRA members, family and friends are invited to march with the ACTRA Toronto contingent. Meet at 8:30 a.m. in the southbound lane at University Avenue and Queen Street, (in front of the Bank of Canada building) at 250 University Avenue. [Link here for details and to RSVP.]
ACROSS CANADA:
Wherever you are in Canada, we encourage you to join fellow ACTRA members and our sibling CLC unions at a Labour Day parade, picnic or local celebration.
Check the Canadian Labour Congress events page for activities in your area and find a way to take part. (*CLC’s Labour Day event page is regularly updated)
Have a safe and happy Labour Day weekend!
